Space: Structure & Tanks solution
Handling Leakage and High Pressure Environments
The most typical application for our products is the sealing of tank doors and joints. Utilized mostly in contact with liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, OmniSeal® seals need to provide low leakage in cryogenic conditions that are required to store these fluids in liquid state. Risk associated to leakage is very high with explosion occurring with a less reliable seal, making the application extremely critical. Sealing elements used in tank joints and doors can be rather large sizes (76 inches or 1.9 meters) and very unusual shapes (not only circular or elliptical). OmniSeal® seals have the advantage of being available in sizes up to three meters and of being machined and formed in customized shapes without manufacturing complications.
The most recent application in this submarket can be found in landing gear shock-strut systems for space launchers and where OmniSeal® parts are used as piston seals and Meldin® 7000 parts as bushing components, both with the added value of being able to work in high pressure environments.
