A transmission is needed to convert the available power from the engine into the needed speed and torque of the drivetrain depending on the actual driving conditions. Manual and multiple variants of automatic (stepped automatic, dual clutch, continuous variable and hybrid) transmissions are available. The number of gears has reached a level of 7 for manuals and up to 11 for automatics today. We support these critical applications with highly efficient Meldin® seal rings and thrust washers.
Our rectangular seals are used for the oil pressure supply of rotating actuators like clutches and pistons. This type of seal is able to resist high speeds and pressures that cannot be sealed by radial shaft or other special type of lip seals. The seal design is also space saving, robust and leads to minimal friction losses.
A thrust washer is a kind of axial plain bearing that separates moving parts (rotating or oscillating) from each other. Friction and wear are minimized by optimal design and material selection. Due to the flexible production process of such parts (injection molding), these can be equipped with additional features such as fixtures or lubrication channels. With a thickness in the millimeter range, space saving is one of the key benefits of these parts.
