A leading global provider of healthcare products has selected to use Saint-Gobain Seals' OmniSeal® spring-energized seals and Meldin® injection molded PEEK bearings in their groundbreaking powered stapling system. The system is one of the first full-powered, reusable, battery operated endoscopic staplers in the world. The spring-energized seals, which were designed and manufactured at the Garden Grove, California, facility, are made of our Fluoroloy® compound material and are used in the handset to withstand multiple steam autoclave cycles while sealing under low torque operating conditions. The Meldin® bearings are manufactured out of our Bristol, Rhode Island, facility, which produces multiple bearings per staple gun.
The stapling system’s simplified design allows for easier installation, features one-handed push-button operation and eliminates the need for manual firing force, which improves maneuverability as opposed to traditional endomechanical staplers. Our partner was recently given 501(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, making the system available in the U.S. in the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2012.
