Seal features a Fluoroloy® jacket energized by a corrosion resistant, v-shaped spring (jacket designed with a flange on the ends). Silicone filled spring cavities are available for food processing and clean-in-place applications. Typical critical parts include: Energy face and static seals with large diameter, welded back-up spring (FPSO turret swivels) and Aerospace seals (landing gearbox actuator shafts and auxiliary power units).
Plastic casings are molded and precision machined from high performance polymers as PTFE, filled PTFE composites, and other thermoplastics. They are in contact with the surface to seal and define the leak rate. They are designed to be a subtle engineer balance of surface conformation to control the leak path and strength to minimize the extrusion through the sealing gap. In dynamic application, their tribology performances is defining the life of the seal.
During the seal installation, the spring is placed under compression, forcing the casing lips against the surface to seal creating a leak tight seal. The spring provides permanent resilience to the seal jacket and compensates for material wear and hardware misalignment or eccentricity. Assisted with the system pressure, the spring loading system provides effective sealing in both low and high pressure operating environment.
